a champagne bottle fizzing like a sparkler

the last week or so has been a real week of celebrations - and all of this before the festive season really kicks off too!

Firstly, Disability Arts Online has won its first national accolade. The site was highly commended at the Jodi Awards, given on December 2, 2009 at the Sackler Centre at the V&A in London.

The Jodi Awards celebrate the best use of digital technology in the service of access to culture for disabled people and Disability Arts Online were Highly Commended in the Digital Access Online Award: “Disability Arts Online is thoughtfully designed for accessibility. It has many options for font size and background colour and a text-only version,” judges said.

“It serves and brings together the vibrant disability arts community. It has an arty, lively and busy look, which reflects the vitality of the people who shape its content and identity. A whole community takes part in this and raises questions about disability identity and society through art, poetry, criticism and debate.”

And Rachel Gadsden has repeated her 2005 success in the Dada Awards, Visual Artist Category, by also winning the award for 2009. Congratulations Rachel!

Also Liz Porter has been appointed as Disability Advisor for Creative Landscapes, another Accentuate Project, which is being run English Heritage. The post covers work in Hastings in East Sussex and Gosport in Hampshire.
