Call For Submissions:

Hatch: Fresh

Sunday 16 October 201, 6pm - late

1 x £500 commission: New performance work by d/Deaf and disabled artists (Headline act)

8 x £250 commissions: New or existing site-responsive performances (Free range)

Deadline for submissions: 10am Saturday 6 August 2011

Hatch, the East Midlands’ leading performance platform, is currently seeking submissions for their next event - Hatch: Fresh - at Embrace Arts, New Walk and the Y Theatre in Leicester on Sunday 16 October 2011.

Hatch is able to offer eight artists/groups a £250 fee for new or existing pieces to take place around the building (Free range) and one fee of £500 to a d/Deaf or disabled artist/group for a new performance work that may occupy the main space and would be billed as a Headline act. All fees include expenses.

Hatch: Fresh will feature the work of twelve different artists and groups from different disciplines (including Action Hero, Frank Abbott and Leicester’s ABC - Alternative Bar Crawl) presenting site-specific performances of all kinds. Performances will take place at Embrace Arts, with some events happening along New Walk, and the evening reaching a finale at The Y Theatre.

As a starting point for submissions, you are invited to respond to the theme of ‘fresh’. We are looking for: site-specific responses to the space and layout of the venues; work that finds it difficult to define itself as one type of performance or another; performances that are playful and unpredictable; ideas and processes that are likely to succeed, but are not afraid to fail.

We are more interested in performances that are alive and evolving than we are in finished products. It may be half-finished or half-started, but not half-hearted. Hatch events are informal and lively, with the audience moving freely between performances. We aim to present high-quality work at all levels of development (from experimental works-in-progress to fully-formed touring shows), but also to create social spaces in unusual settings, allowing a free flow of ideas between audiences and artists without barriers.

Embrace Arts creates connections between the University of Leicester and wider communities. It is a creative hub for artists, performers, audiences and learners alike. It pioneers vibrant and creative approaches to the arts in an inclusive and welcoming space, breaking down barriers to access.

If you would like to receive information in another format, please ask. If you know someone who might be interested in this opportunity, please pass this call for submissions on. We look forward to receiving your submission.
